Introducing Jenny & Barry, Lee’s long suffering Ma and Pa. Inspired by the recent flurry of bicycle-related antics, they asked us to send them off on an Eat Sleep Cycle adventure. In Barry’s own words, here’s how they got along…
Hi! We are middle-aged moderate cyclists and have always enjoyed a weekend bike ride. We gave Eat Sleep Cycle our brief: we wanted to ride from Griona to the Costa Brava, take a day off the bike and have a dip in the med & ride back to Griona the following day.
Lee & Lou sent us off to Sant Marti D’Empúries. On day 1 we rode 60 km to L’Escala, stayed two nights at the Hostal Miryanmar and then returned by bicycle to Griona. Wow! Did we get this one right! The route took us through lovely villages and countryside (OK – the garmin sent us off North and we had to use our pigeon Spanish to ask a cafe owner (whilst drinking his iced water) “Donde ay Roses y L’Escala?”)
Back on track the Hostal in L’Escala immersed us in a time passed and the place was very cool.
Riding back to Girona there was a tail wind and everything was so fast and easy (or was it the rest we just had?) We were treated to more lovely views and the smells of pine cones and fruit growing. We returned into Girona Old Town along a pleasant off-road route.
Check out the ride to Sant Marti D’Empúries on our routes page.
