FAQs

1
What rider level is best for a Colombia cycling holiday?
You don’t need to be a pro, but you should have regular cycling experience and some comfort with sustained riding and climbs. We rate our tours from Level 1 (Leisure) to Level 4 (Epic). Each tour contains a description of the level, expected daily ride time, distance and elevation. If you have any doubts we're more than happy to speak to you on the phone and help to find you the perfect trip!
2
When is the best time to cycle in Colombia?
Colombia’s equatorial climate means you can ride year-round, but the driest, most reliable months are December to March and July to September. These seasons bring clear skies and great riding conditions, especially in the Andes and coffee regions.
3
How does altitude affect cycling in Colombia?
Many of the climbs reach between 7,000m and 9,000m. Most riders adjust quickly, and our itineraries build in steady acclimatisation with easier days at the start. Staying hydrated, pacing yourself and enjoying the scenery makes the experience as rewarding as the challenge.
4
Can I hire a bike in Colombia or bring my own?
You have both options. A fleet of high-quality rental bikes (road, gravel, e-bikes) is available, but if you prefer to bring your own, that’s possible too. It’s best to check at the time of booking to confirm arrangements.
5
Which parts of Colombia will I ride through?
Our tours centre around Antioquia and the Medellín region, leveraging Colombia’s legendary terrain. You’ll tackle classic climbs around Medellín like La Unión, Santa Elena, Alto de la Rayas, Pantalio and Las Palmas. In our gravel adventures, you’ll descend into the coffee-country foothills, explore remote jungle valleys, rivers and rural highland tracks. Some tours (like Beyond Medellín) also take you into rural Antioquia, colonial towns such as Santa Fe de Antioquia, and out toward the southwest of the region.
6
Is Colombia safe for cycling holidays?
Yes. We carefully select our routes to avoid busy traffic and keep you on safe, scenic roads. Our local guides know the terrain inside out, and a support vehicle is always close by. Riders often comment on how welcoming and encouraging the Colombian people are.
7
What’s included in a Colombia cycling tour?
Accommodation, most meals (full board), expert local guides, luggage transfers, mechanical support, and a support vehicle are all included. Not included are international flights, personal travel insurance and optional extras like single-room upgrades.
8
What should I pack for my trip?
Bring layered cycling kit to handle warm valleys and cooler mountain passes, lightweight rain gear, sun protection, good gloves, and a small first-aid kit.
