Día 2
Sarnico to Darfo

The route from Sarnico to Darfo traces the eastern shoreline of the stunning Lake Iseo, offering cyclists a scenic and rewarding ride. This picturesque road hugs the lake’s edge, delivering continuous views of dramatic cliffs, sparkling waters, and charming lakeside villages.

Traffic is typically light during the week, making for a relaxed and enjoyable experience. The route features just one notable climb – a 4 km ascent. While the first 600 meters are steep, the gradient soon evens out into a steady, manageable incline without any major challenges.

Along the east coast, cyclists can enjoy dedicated bike lanes and well-maintained paths, particularly between Vello and Toline, where the route becomes fully separated from vehicle traffic. This stretch is especially famous for its panoramic lakeside views and quiet, safe cycling environment, making it a highlight for riders of all levels

Darfo to Edolo

From Lake Iseo, the route continues up the Oglio River into the heart of the beautiful Camonica Valley. Much of this stretch follows a dedicated bike path, offering a peaceful ride away from vehicle traffic as you trace the river’s course northward.

Where the bike path is interrupted, the route transitions to quiet back roads. There are a few short sections—just a few kilometers—where you’ll need to ride on the main road, but traffic should be minimal, especially since this is the upper valley and outside the peak tourist season.

The ride through the Camonica Valley combines natural beauty with tranquility, making it an ideal continuation of the journey from Lake Iseo.

Día 4
Edolo to Tirano

The most challenging section of the route is the 12 km climb to Aprica, a well-known alpine ski resort. Fortunately, the ascent is steady and manageable, with gentle gradients that allow for a comfortable rhythm. At a relaxed pace of 6–7 mph, the climb typically takes around two hours, offering sweeping views and a rewarding sense of progress as you rise through the landscape.

Once you reach the Aprica Pass, the hard work pays off with a thrilling descent into Tirano. The road down is wide, smooth, and fast, so take care—maintain control and brake wisely, especially on the sharper curves.

As you approach Tirano, the route naturally follows the gentle course of the Adda River, which winds broadly through the lower Valtellina. The river becomes wider and calmer here, running parallel to quiet country roads and framed by rows of vineyards and apple orchards. The mountains that once towered tightly above the valley begin to open up, giving you a sense of space and warmth as you glide toward the town. The descent is gradual and pleasant, and the air often carries hints of fresh water and cultivated fields—a peaceful prelude to the stage’s end.

The town is also famous as the Italian terminus of the Bernina Railway, one of the world’s most scenic rail lines. With its mix of mountain charm, cultural heritage, and warm Valtellina atmosphere, Tirano offers a perfect stay.

Día 5
Tirano to Colico

Today’s stage is a scenic descent from Tirano to Colico, on the northern tip of Lake Como—a location that, to many, is the most beautiful spot on the lake. Colico sits right on the water’s edge, framed by the towering Alps that divide Italy and Switzerland, with the majestic Monte Legnone (2,700 meters) dominating the skyline.

At 75 km, this is the longest stage of the journey, but also one of the most enjoyable. The entire route trends downhill, making it a perfect opportunity to recover from previous climbs while still covering plenty of ground. You’ll ride with consistently favorable gradients, feeling the ease of descent all the way from Tirano to Colico.

Much of the ride follows the famous Sentiero Valtellina, a dedicated bike path that runs along the Adda River, completely separate from vehicle traffic. This peaceful greenway takes you through vineyards, orchards, and some of Valtellina’s most charming villages, offering a smooth, scenic, and relaxing ride into the heart of Lake Como.

Día 6
Colico - Chiavenna - Colico

Your last ridingday takes you on a delightful ride from Colico to Valchiavenna, a charming alpine valley known for its rich history, natural beauty, and culinary traditions. This stage is relatively short and gentle, making it perfect for a leisurely ride and cultural immersion.

The route follows a dedicated cycle path, part of the Ciclovia Valchiavenna, which runs mostly alongside a clear mountain creek and winds through lush meadows, chestnut groves, and quiet rural villages. The path is paved and well-maintained, fully separated from traffic for most of the way, offering a safe and serene ride in a truly idyllic setting.

As you approach Chiavenna, the landscape becomes increasingly alpine, with dramatic peaks rising around you and stone bridges arching over bubbling streams. The area is dotted with ancient crotti—traditional stone cellars built into the mountainside where cool air naturally flows. Many of these crotti have been converted into rustic restaurants, and they offer the perfect spot to stop for lunch.

Don’t miss the chance to try Pizzoccheri della Valchiavenna, a hearty local specialty made with buckwheat pasta, creamy cheese, and potatoes—a delicious reward after the morning’s ride.
