Welcome to the coffee-scented mountains of the Western Colombian Andes. Filled with brightly colored towns and enchanting landscapes, Colombia’s main coffee-growing region is like something out of a fairytale, and perfect to discover by bike.
Our journey begins taking in some of the climbs in the most popular riding region to the east of the city. Visit local villages and get a taste of what it feels like to climb when you start at 2,000 m! For part two of the week we travel to the Suroeste, the heartland of rural Antioquia. Stay in the private village of Cauca Viejo and visit a coffee plantation before riding north up the river to the colonial town of Santa Fe de Antioquia where our final ride awaits!
Our journey ends in Medellín, the city of eternal spring and the birthplace of colourful Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Today, pro cycling teams from across the world come to train on the incredible roads that wind up out of the city and into the mountains. Local riders include Rigoberto Uran and Fernando Gaviria.
Enjoy warm hospitality and delicious fresh food and soak up coffee culture at its source.
Rated 3 out of 4 our Advanced tours are designed for people who ride regularly and want back to back challenging days on the bike. Riders should be confident riding in a small group, comfortable on extended climbs (at your own pace) and have good bike handling skills on corners and descents. E-bikes are available on all of our tours.
Travel to Medellin, the city of eternal spring and starting destination for our South American adventure. Today is about spinning the legs and getting ready for the ride. After we set up our bikes, we will go for the first ride of the trip. Nestled in the Andean highlands, La Unión is a charming rural town known for its rolling green hills and cool climate. Cyclists can enjoy scenic routes through vast potato fields and picturesque landscapes, with smooth roads and challenging climbs that make it a favorite destination for road cycling and gravel adventures.
A hidden gem in Antioquia, Concepción is a beautifully preserved colonial town surrounded by stunning mountain landscapes. The ride to Concepción offers a mix of challenging climbs and rewarding descents, passing through coffee plantations and rural villages, making it a perfect adventure for cyclists looking for history and nature. From Concepción, riders can take a longer break or climb the Alto de la Raya, a recently paved, tough 6 km climb.
Our last ride in the east takes us through the picturesque town of El Retiro and on to La Ceja and the notorious climb to Pantanillo. After the ride, there’s time to shower and change before we take a transfer south the Suroueste & another magical region of Antioquia.
Wake up by the river Cauca in the private village of Cauca Vieja. Today we climb! Nestled in the coffee-growing region of Antioquia, Concordia offers cyclists a stunning ride through lush landscapes, rolling hills, and breathtaking mountain views. The routes leading to Concordia are known for their winding roads, moderate-to-challenging climbs, and scenic coffee plantations. The climb itself starts at 500 m and reaches 2,000 m! We’ll visit Finca La Primavera for coffee tasting and lunch. Rehcharge on fresh local coffee and enjoy a warm welcome from the friendly locals. before enjoying the lovely downhill home!
Today, ride north to Santa Fe de Antioquia along a rolling route that hugs the river Cauca. Santa Fe de Antioquia is a beautifully preserved colonial town known for its cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and stunning churches. As the former capital of Antioquia, it boasts a rich history, a vibrant culture, and a warm climate year-round. Visitors can explore landmarks like the Puente de Occidente, the main square with its impressive cathedral, and various museums showcasing the region’s past. The town is also famous for its local markets, traditional sweets, and lively festivals.
For a grand finale of the trip enjoy a shorter but beautiful loop to visit the Puente Occidental, a historic bridge from the colonial era. After the ride there’s time to shower before a short transfer to Medellín for the afternoon. Relax at the hotel or head out to explore the city before our last evening together.
