Gethyn

Gethyn

Originally from Cardiff, Gethyn is a well-balanced guide who loves the social side of cycling. Whether he’s talking endlessly about the world or enjoying a “marriage made in heaven” (cold beer and pork scratchings), he finds his peace on the road between Tossa and Sant Feliu or swimming in a forest river.

Rafa

Rafa

Rafa is from Barcelona and has made the city of Granada his home. Alongside guiding Rafa works as a cycling coach. He rides both road and gravel and has probably climbed the Pico de Veleta more times than anyone else!

FAQs

1
What rider level is best for a North Spain cycling holiday?
You don't need to be a racer, but you should be comfortable with regular riding and sustained climbs. We rate our tours from Level 1 (Leisure) to Level 4 (Epic), with each tour clearly outlining expected daily distance, ride time and elevation. Not sure which suits you? We are always happy to chat it through and find the perfect trip.
2
When is the best time to cycle in Northern Spain?
The northern regions of Euskadi, Cantabria and Asturias have a cooler, greener climate than the rest of Spain. Late spring and early autumn offer the most reliable conditions, with comfortable temperatures and quieter roads. Summer is also a great time to visit, with long days and the region at its most vibrant.
3
Which climbs and routes will I ride?
That depends on your tour, but the Picos de Europa and the iconic Lagos de Covadonga are among the highlights. The latter is a regular feature on the Vuelta a España, stretching 14km with an average gradient of 7%. Our guides know every road in the region and will make sure you get the most out of every day.
4
Can I hire a bike in Northern Spain or bring my own?
Both options are available. As of 2026, you can hire bikes directly from us in Bilbao, San Sebastián and Santander. If you prefer to bring your own bike, that is no problem. Just confirm the arrangements at the time of booking.
5
Is Northern Spain safe for cycling holidays?
Yes. We carefully select routes to keep you on quiet, scenic roads away from heavy traffic. Our local guides know the terrain inside out and a support vehicle is always close by. The people of the Basque Country, Cantabria and Asturias are welcoming and the region has a genuine respect for cyclists.
6
What’s included in a North Spain cycling tour?
Accommodation, daily routes, expert guides, luggage transfers and mechanical support are all included. International flights and personal travel insurance are not included. Please note that health insurance covering cycling activity is mandatory and we will ask for your provider details before you travel.
7
What should I pack for my trip?
North Spain's climate is cooler and wetter than southern Spain, so pack a lightweight, layered cycling kit and a good rain jacket. Sun protection and gloves are still recommended, particularly for longer days in the mountains. Once booked, we will send you a full packing list with everything you need before you fly.
8
What happens if I need to cancel my trip?
We have a flexible cancellation policy. Please take a look at our cancellation policy at the time of booking, and if you have any questions just reach out and we are happy to help.
