Meet the group at Bilbao train station and transfer together to our starting location in the village of Pechón on the Costa Verde. Enjoy a light lunch before getting the bikes set up and heading out for a warm-up ride into the Asturian countryside.
An action-packed day is calling! Ride from Pechón to see Stage 12 of the Vuelta. We’ll watch the peleton pass through the town of Corrales de Buelna en route to the last climb of the day. We’ll then wait on the finish line to witness the sprint finish. After the race we’ll transfer to our next hotel in Oviedo. *note all rides are subject to final race timings
Climbing the Angliru by bike is one of the most legendary and brutal experiences in road cycling. The Alto de l’Angliru is infamous for its extreme gradients—reaching up to 23.5%—and relentless intensity. The climb is 12.5 km long with an average gradient of 10%, but the final 6 km are truly punishing, with steep, twisting ramps like Cueña les Cabres that test even the strongest riders. At the summit we’ll await the arrival of the pro riders before descending back to Oviedo. *note all rides are subject to final race timings
Take a short transfer to today’s ride start in Proaza. Climb alongside the Rio Taverga to the summit of our first climb, the Puerto San Lorenzo. Enjoy a beautiful descent before starting the final climb of the day (and the Vuelta’s last climb of the day) to the Alto de La Farrapona. where we wait for the peleton. After the stage we transfer to Cangas de Onis for our grand finale in the Picos de Europa. *note all rides are subject to final race timings
Enjoy a day away from the crowds of the Vuelta and climb into the heart of the Picos de Europa up to the Lagos de Covadonga. This 12.6 km ascent gains over 1,100 meters in elevation, with an average gradient of 7.2% and ramps reaching 15%. The climb begins gently through lush, green forest, gradually winding higher as the road narrows and the views open up. Midway, the real test begins—with sharp, steep sections like La Huesera, where the gradient spikes and your legs truly feel the effort. But every switchback rewards you with breathtaking panoramas of dramatic limestone peaks, alpine meadows, and deep valleys. As you approach the summit, the famous twin glacial lakes—Enol and Ercina—come into view, offering a serene, majestic finish to a grueling ascent. Herds of cows and wild horses often roam freely, adding to the unique, almost mythical atmosphere. Steeped in Vuelta a España history, the Lagos de Covadonga climb is both a physical challenge and an unforgettable journey through natural beauty. It’s a must-ride for any cyclist seeking iconic climbs and pure mountain magic and the perfect way to finish our trip.
