Ride coast-to-coast through the beautiful English countryside and discover the county that hosted the 2014 Tour de France Grand Départ and the 2019 world championships.
Start on the east coast of England in the picturesque village of Robin Hood’s Bay & a gentle spin to the fishing town of Whitby. Ride west from here across the Yorkshire Moors and into the stunning Yorkshire Dales, tackle Fleet Moss, take on the brutal lane to Dent and marvel at the Ribblehead viaduct. Continue west to the Lake District, taste Kendal mint cake, climb the notorious Hard Knott pass & celebrate our coast to coast adventure at a traditional English country pub.
There will be craft beer in English pubs, afternoon tea in quintessential English tearooms, fish & chips, pub lunches (includes, pies, roast, Yorkhire puddings), the best tea in the world on tap and a whole lot of incredible riding.
Rated 3 out of 4 our Advanced tours are designed for people who ride regularly and want back to back challenging days on the bike. Riders should be confident riding in a small group, comfortable on extended climbs (at your own pace) and have good bike handling skills on corners and descents. E-bikes are available on all of our tours.
Meet your guide team at York Train Station at 11:00. Transfer together to Robin Hood’s Bay (a 90 min drive). At Victoria Hotel enjoy tea and sandwiches as your guides deliver the welcome briefing. After, check-in and change and meet back to get the bikes set up and head out on the first ride across lush green countryside to Whitby. Enjoy a relaxed evening meal together at the hotel.
Enjoy a wild point to point ride across the Yorkshire Moors from Robin Hood’s Bay to Helmsley. Our first point to point starts with a series of short, steep climbs that are typical of the region. A long ascent follows up to the Yorkshire Moors before a fabulous descent to our lunch stop and a flatish route to Helmsley.
Enjoy a changing landscape from the open Yorkshire Moors to the rolling Yorkshire Dales. Tonight’s resting place is the highest pub in England, a meeting place for travellers from all over the world.
A spectcular ride modelled on the iconic anual Etape du Dales ride. Descend from Tanhill to the base of the Buttertubs pass. After a tough climb descend to the village of Hawes where we’ll pop to the Wensleydale Creamery (cheese lovers beware!) The next climb is up to Fleet Moss, followed by a steep descent to the beautiful River Wharfe. The final climb up to Bruts Hill drops to the village of Settle. Take the rolling road to Austwick to finish an epic day! Tonight we’ll take a short walk to the local pub for a hearty meal.
Say farewell to the Dales as our journey continues west to the Lake District. Our first stop is at Ribblehead Viaduct, an impressive feat of Victorian engineering synonymous with the Dales landscape. We continue on stunning lanes to thethe village of Dent where we’ll enjoy our final cup of tea in the Dales. Lunch is enjoyed in the village of Steveney. After lunch ride through Bowland Bridge to the banks of Lake Windemere. We take the Hawskhead ferry across the river & continue north to Barngate.
Our final ride takes us west over the steep slopes of the Hard Knott Pass and down to the coastal village of Seascale. In Seascale we’ll stop for a picnic and photo by the sea! Home is a tough ride back east – 5 punchy climbs and the picturesque banks of Coniston water are between you and the first celebratory ale back at the Drunken Duck.
Sadly, it is time to depart. A 40 min group transfer departs for Lancaster train station. Book trains after 12 noon.
