Discover the south of Spain in all its glory on this eight-day tour of Andalucia. Ride west across the region from Almeria to Seville, stopping at Granada, Antequera, Ronda and Arcos de la Frontera along the way. Observe the unique personality of each village, town and city and the changing landscape as each leg of the tour brings new challenges, discoveries and stories.
The tour will kick off from Almeria as the group moves west towards the town of Laujar de Andarax. From there, the next destination on the cards is Granada, one of Spain’s most beautiful cities backed by the spectacular Sierra Nevada mountains, also featured as part of the ride on day 3! After exploring this magical city and discovering some of Granada’s best tapas bars, the next leg of the route will head west once again in the direction of Antequera, a slightly smaller town with an incredible natural wonder right on its doorstep!
After Antequera, the destination on day 5 is Ronda, home to the awe-inspiring Puente Nuevo. Enjoy a calm stroll around the town and the Plaza de la Duquesa de Parcent in the afternoon and enjoy the views over the surrounding countryside. On day 6, it’s time to ride to Arcos de la Frontera, a white village perched on the top of a hill and considered by some to be one of the most beautiful villages in Spain! The final destination of the Trans Andalucian tour is Seville, one of Andalucia’s most iconic cities, with the chance to watch an authentic flamenco show in the evening, accompanied by a well-deserved glass of wine.
The group will stay in a different city and hotel each night as the tour moves from Almeria to Seville, each offering a hearty breakfast before the ride each day. The Eat Sleep Cycle team will keep you fuelled en-route with snacks and drinks, and there’ll be no shortage of opportunities to discover traditional Andalucian dishes and sweet treats each night.
Rated 3 out of 4 our Advanced tours are designed for people who ride regularly and want back to back challenging days on the bike. Riders should be confident riding in a small group, comfortable on extended climbs (at your own pace) and have good bike handling skills on corners and descents. E-bikes are available on all of our tours.
No sooner are the bikes set up, then the tour will begin with a gentle warm-up ride along the coastline. Setting off from the hotel, the group will head west towards the town of Aguadulce.
The real fun gets going on day 2, as the first leg of the tour gets underway. The goal for today’s ride is Laujar de Andarax, around 76 km from Almeria. Fuel up at breakfast at the hotel in the morning and enjoy the ride ahead.
After a good night’s sleep in Laujar de Andarax, the tour continues west for 144 km towards Granada, one of the most magical cities in Spain, passing through the Puerto de Regua and into the Sierra Nevada mountains. Under Islamic rule until the late fifteenth century, Granada today preserves echoes of its multicultural past, culminating in one of the best-preserved examples of Islamic architecture in Europe, the Alhambra. Enjoy a stroll around the Albaicín neighbourhood in the evening and dine in one of Granada’s famous tapas restaurants.
After Granada, the tour will head to Antequera, a pretty town of Roman origin with an incredible natural wonder on its doorstep, the natural park El Torcal de Antequera, home to millennia-old rock formations that once upon a time lay on the seabed.
Day 5 presents a slightly shorter route of 91 km to Ronda, home to the awe-inspiring Puente Nuevo, an almighty bridge connecting two parts of the city over a deep gorge. Once rested, explore the town and enjoy a cold drink in Plaza Mayor.
The penultimate day of riding takes the tour from Ronda to Arcos de la Frontera, one of Andalucia’s classic white-washed hilltop villages. Today’s route is a climber’s dream with just over 2,000 m to complete before reaching the destination. Upon arrival, explore this charming town by foot and stretch your legs before the final day in the saddle tomorrow.
From Arcos de la Frontera, ride north to the final destination of the tour, Seville. Overflowing with Andalucian charm, buzzing bars and breath-taking archtecture, Seville is the ideal place to end an epic journey such as the Trans Andalucian Challenge. After a final 92.8 km, enjoy a well-deserved glass of sherry and an authentic flamenco tablao whilst reminiscing about the past seven days of incredible riding.
Sadly, it’s time for the tour to end! Plan your onward travel from the last hotel in Seville.
