The Canary Islands are a paradise for cyclists seeking to escape winter and enjoy warm temperatures and long climbs.
Begin the adventure in the south of the island with two nights in the picturesque Puerto de Mogan. Climb up to the centre of the volcanic island to Pico de las Nieves – the highest point of Gran Canaria and home to spectacular 360 degree views. On a clear day it’s possible to see Mont Teide on Tenerife. From Puerto Mogan ride north via the leg-busting, breathtaking Valley of the Tears – a climb that will break the legs of the strongest cyclist (don’t worry, we’ll be on hand to support every pedal stroke and offer a ride to the top!) but rewards the effort with stunning scenery all the way up. At the top of the climb is our resting place for the night in the Parador at the Cruz de Tejedor, a rural retreat in the clouds. The following day brings respite as our route descends to the north of the island and the volcanic beach of Agaete. Choose to ride further out and back along the rugged coast road or check-in to the hotel spa & relax!
Stay in handpicked 4* hotels throughout the tour, enjoy a wide range of dining experiences selected to showcase the best cuisine on the islands and enjoy full support from the Eat Sleep Cycle team.
Rated 3 out of 4 our Advanced tours are designed for people who ride regularly and want back to back challenging days on the bike. Riders should be confident riding in a small group, comfortable on extended climbs (at your own pace) and have good bike handling skills on corners and descents. E-bikes are available on all of our tours.
Meet the Eat Sleep Cycle team in Las Palmas airport in time for the group transfer to Puerto Mogan. Enjoy a light lunch before a warm-up ride along the coast to check your bike & body are ready for the climbs ahead.
Day 2 brings the first big challenge of the tour, a classic Gran Canaria climb to Pico del las Nieves.
Ride point to point to the centre of the island via the most brutal climb on the island, the Valley of the Tears. Stay the night in peace & tranquility at the fabulous Parador Cruz de Tejeda.
Start the day with a fabulous descent to Ingenio. Next up is a beautiful climb through the colourful villages of Santa Lucía de Tirajana & Sant Bartolome de Tirajana. At the summit is Ayacata the view to Roque Nublo.
Today brings an opportunity to rest as our route takes us downhill to the north of the island and the black beaches of Agaete. Our spa hotel boasts views of the ocean & is just a couple of minutes walk from natural rock pools for bathing. Opt to finish the ride here or continue to ride out & back along the quiet coastal road that hugs the cliffs. Enjoy a relaxed evening at your own pace – we’ll provide recommendations for dinner & guests are free to do their own thing.
After breakfast and a ferry ride back across to Agaete enjoy a ride through the lush green landscape of the north of the island. Our last evening of the trip is enjoyed together at a traditional seafood restaurant harbourside in Agaete. Swap stories of the week & celebrate new friendships.
Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye! Join our group transfer after to breakfast to Las Palmas airport.
