In search of up in the French Alps? Join an official Everesting tour as we take on 10,700m of climbing over 6 days in the high mountains of the French Alps. Test yourself on some of the toughest climbs HC climbs in cycling. Start the ride on the shores of Lake Annecy. Make your own slice of history on the slopes of the Semnoz, the Madeleine, the Croix du Fer, the Glandon, the Telegraph and the Galibier as you ride south to finish in style at the summit of Alpe d’Huez.

Rated 4 out of 4 our Epic tours are designed for people who train 3 or 4 times a week and are looking to push themselves on back to back challenging days on the bike. Riders should be confident riding in a small group, comfortable on extended climbs (at your own pace) and have good bike handling skills on corners and descents. E-bikes are available on all of our tours.

ITINERARY

Day 1

Welcome to France!

Welcome to France! Meet your guides at Grenoble train station and take a 90 min transfer to Lake Annecy. Head out on a warm-up ride and the first Col of the tour: the Col de Leschaux. Spend the night in the 4* Les Trésoms Spa and Lake Resort, boasting spectacular views in of Lake Annecy. The medieval city centre of Annecy is a 15-minute stroll away.

Warm-up ride, Col de Leschaux, 43 km, 900 m

Day 1

Lake Annecy to Albertville

On the cards for day 2 is a point to point 87-km ride from Lake Annecy to Albertville. Today's highlights include Semnoz (16 km, 1150 m, 7% av.) and the Col du Frene (12 km, 300 m, 3% av.). Spend the night at the Hotel Million, a wonderful 1770 bourgeois house transformed into a traditional French hotel.

Point to point ride, Lake Annecy to Albertville, 87 km, 2,000 m

Day 1

Albertville to La Toussuire

Day 3 brings another point to point ride from Albertville to La Toussuire including two spectacular climbs, Col de la Madeleine (25 km, 1,600 m, 6% av.) and La Toussuire (19 km, 1,100 m, 5.5% av.). Spend the evening and night at Le Beausoleil, a traditional chalet-style accommodation in the village of La Toussuire. Enjoy a warm welcome & seasonal produce at the restaurant.

Point to point ride Albertville to La Toussuire, 96 km, 3,300 m

Day 1

La Toussuire to Bourg-d’Oisans

On day 4, prepare for another point to point ride from La Toussuire to Bourg-d’Oisans. Conquer the Col du Télégraphe (11 km, 800 m, 7% av.) and the Col du Galibier (18 km, 1,200 m, 7% av.) recurrently the highest point of the Tour de France. Spend the night at the Hotel Grandes Rousses, a fabulous hotel on the top of Alpe d’Huez. Unwind in the spa, enjoy surf and turf cuisine at the restaurant and enjoy a nightcap at the bar.

Point to point ride, La Toussuire to Bourg-d’Oisans, 112 km, 2,800 m

Day 1

The Alpe d’Huez

On the final day of riding, day 6, take on the mighty Alpe d'Huez (15 km, 1,147 m, 8% av.) and its 21 hairpin bends! Drink in the breath-taking views and enjoy the magnificent descent. Spend a final night at the 4* Hotel Grandes Rousses.

Loop ride to the Alpe d’Huez, 53 km, 1,700 m

Day 1

Departures from Grenoble

Enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel before departing from the Alps. There will be a group transfer to Grenoble train station, which takes around one hour. Bon voyage!

Enjoy full ride support from our professional guide team & support vehicle.

The ride support vehicle is stocked with natural ride nutrition, electrolytes and water, as well as a full set of tools to resolve any mechanicals. On selected days the support crew will serve a delicious picnic lunch in a scenic location en route. Enjoy local foods chosen to keep you feeling energized and healthy.

Ipar is from Catalunya and has a big love for gravel racing. As well as a cycling guide, Ipar is an outdoor activity guide - if he's not on his bike he's likely to be kayaking or climbing. He wins our award for best dressed guide!

Eloi

After leaving his career as an Engineer to explore the world by bike with his partner, Eloi has returned home to Catalunya to start a new career as a guide. Eloi has a deep love of life on two wheels and the great outdoors - he's looking forward to the adventure with you!

What happens if I need to cancel the trip?

We have a flexible cancelation policy – please take a look at our cancellation policy at the time of booking. If you have any doubts please reach out and we’re happy to help.

Is the tour the right level for me?

We rate our tours from Level 1 (Leisure) to Level 4 (Epic). Each tour contains a description of the level, expected daily ride time, distance and elevation. If you have any doubts we’re more that happy to speak to you on the phone and help to find you the perfect trip!

What about bikes? Can I hire one or should I bring my own?

We recommend that you hire a bike for your tour and will work with you after you book to help you to choose the best size and model for your ride style. If you prefer to bring your bike, it’s no problem. Please be aware that on some of our epic trips we charge a supplement to transport your bike box to our finishing location. If you have any doubts, please ask!

Is insurance included?

Insurance is not included in our tour packages. We highly recommend contracting travel insurance at the time of reservation with a company from where you are from.

Health insurance which covers you for illness or injury whilst cycling in your chosen destination is mandatory, we’ll ask you for details of your insurance providor before you travel.
