Welcome to the ultimate week of road cycling in Girona! Start the week with George Hincapie’s favourite training loop which includes the climbs of Els Àngles & Santa Pelaia. On day 2 make a beeline for the mediterranean on a classic Costa Brava loop and climb San Grau. The coast road is one of the most spectacular roads in the world, prepare to enjoy! On day 3 ride west and into the mountains. The climb of the day is up to the town of Sant Hilari Sacalm. The long ascent winds along a forested river for over 20 km. On day 4 a true classic awaits – Rocacorba! The KOM is one coveted by Pro Cyclists and the views at the top do not disappoint. The last day is a ride to Mare de Deu del Mont, a climb known as the ‘Gateway to the Pyrenees’. Stop for coffee and pastries on the way in the village of Esponellà, soak up the best views of the week at the top of the climb and visit the medieval village of Besalú en route back to Girona.
Enjoy one base for the week at Hotel Carlemany, a stylish city centre hotel located on a large plaça in Girona’s new town. The hotel is decorated with original artworks inspired by the region and is located a short 5 minute walk to the Eat Sleep Cycle Hub and Girona’s old town. Breakfast has been developed with cyclists in mind.
The first lunch of the trip is at the Eat Sleep Cycle Hub – relax in the sun on the terrace and enjoy a warm welcome from the team. Dine out each evening in our favourite restuarants in Girona city centre, each a short stroll from the hotel. Each restuarant offers something different & our selection is designed to showcase the best food in the region. Enjoy traditional Catalan cusine, Basque pintxos, seasonal dishes and international fusions. All meals are served with local wines and hosted by your guide team. Lunches are served by your guide team in scenic locations along each route and feature healthy, fresh, seasonal produce designed to keep you riding all week.
Rated 3 out of 4 our Advanced tours are designed for people who ride regularly and want back to back challenging days on the bike. Riders should be confident riding in a small group, comfortable on extended climbs (at your own pace) and have good bike handling skills on corners and descents. E-bikes are available on all of our tours.
Rendevoux with the group for a welcome lunch on the Eat Sleep Cycle terrace. Your guide team will help you set up your bike and give you a tour briefing. Then, get ready and set off for your first ride of the tour to Els Àngels as an introduction to the week ahead. At the top of Els Àngels take in the views of your playground for the next week and take a look at the sanctuary where artist Salvador Dalí married his muse Gala in 1958.
Today’s ride takes you east, riding away from Girona towards the stunning Costa Brava, passing through small medieval villages and climbing Sant Grau before reaching the sparkling Mediterranean sea, where you’ll ride along the coastline and soak up the views before heading back towards Girona.
Two climbs await you on day 3, Sant Hilari Sacalm and Mas Llunes, as the ride takes you further inland to explore rural Catalonia in all its glory, complete with rolling hills and impressive masias dotted along the roadside.
Today ride up one of the most legendary climbs in Girona, Rocacorba. This climb winds through wooded hillsides to the summit overlooking the patchwork green countryside. The views do not disappoint! Those in need of rest can choose to skip the climb and relax at Banyoles Lake – the largest natural lake in Catalunya & host to the 1992 Olympic rowing competition.
On day 5, head north towards France and into the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains and climb Mare de Deu del Mont. Finish the tour in style with this impressive climb, drinking in the mountain views as you reach the summit, before heading back down towards Girona for a celebratory evening meal with the whole team.
Sadly, the tour draws to an end on day 6, and all that’s left to do is say our goodbyes and prepare for the journey home.
