Badlands Highlights

Cabo De Gata Nature Reserve

Cabo De Gata Nature Reserve

Cabo de Gata-Níjar natural park was the first protected area of its kind in Andalucía and it is also recognised by Unesco as a Biosphere Reserve and World Geopark. It boasts 50 kilometres of steep cliffs and unspoiled beaches. The gravel road that hugs the coast is a truly breathtaking experience.

Tabernas Desert

Tabernas Desert

The Tabernas Desert, home to the only desert climate on the European continent, is bounded by three big mountain ranges: Filabres, Alhamilla and Sierra Nevada. The Tabernas Desert includes some dry river basins surrounded by the badlands known as ramblas. The region has been the backdrop to Spaghetti western films since the 1950’s and most recently was the location for the shooting of Black Mirror.

Gorafe Desert

Gorafe Desert

A colourful desert to the east of Granada, the dry ravines of the desert give the Badlands race its name. Look out for an abundance of rock formations and cave houses. Part of the Granada Geopark the region is one of the oldest human settlements in the Iberian Peninsula.

Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada mountains rise high above the city of Granada. Popular for altitude trianing camps for pro teams, the Sierra Nevada is also home to the mighty Pico de Veleta, the highest paved road in Europe.
